River Run Pinot Noir 2014WEB SMALL

River Run Pinot Noir 2015

winemakers comments:
River Run is our Central Otago regional Pinot Noir made from grapes grown in our vineyards in different sub-regions of Central Otago. The deep alpine valleys and waterways of Central Otago have craved the land available for grape growing into quite distinct sub-regions. Each pocket of land has its own unique climate and soil mix producing quite different styles of Pinot Noir. River Run captures the character of each of the sub-regions where our vineyards are planted. Lowburn gives us bright, fresh sweet fruit, Gibbston savory and herbal tones, and Parkburn brings good texture and mineral length.

wine description:
Bursting with cherry and wild berry fruit, the bouquet also gives up elements of spice and dried herbs. On the palate the wine is a seamless package of elegant cherry fruit and beautifully presented tannins and acid on the long and detailed finish - thoroughly smashable.

harvest: 3rd April– 8th May 2015                       in bottle:

Finla Mor Pinot Noir 2016

winemaker’s comments:
Finla Mor is grown on selected vineyards in the Cromwell basin. The vineyards are all planted on elevated terraces in the Lowburn and Parkburn areas. Each of the vineyards feature a mix of the alluvial schist based soils giving the wine its purity and minerality. Each vineyard is hand harvested, and fermented in small lots.

wine description:
Seductive aromas of lightly spiced red cherries, plums and wild flowers. The strong cherry flavoured fruit on the palate is supported with supple tannins and lush acid to balance. Long, silky and mineral.

Mata-Au Pinot Noir 2016

winemakers comments:
Our Mata-Au vineyards are located in the Lowburn and Parkburn areas of the Cromwell basin. The vineyards are planted on the terraces and alluvial schist based soils formed by the Mata-Au (Clutha) River (pronounced – martar-o). The unique combination of site, soil and mild continental climate produces perfumed wines with elegant texture, structure and mineral length. It is made from the best blocks in our best vineyards in the Lowburn/Parkburn sub-region. Mata-Au showcases the succulent red fruits and silky tannins that are the hallmarks of this sub-region, delivered in our elegant, textural and length driven style.

wine description:
The wine has enticing earthy aromas of floral dried herbs and dark spice, with intermingling red and blue fruits. There are elegant lines that deliver the pure red fruit flavours to the back of the palate. At the same time layers of fine tannin swell up to gently support and caress the palate as the wine finishes with a lovely mineral energy and drive.

Tiger 2014 WEB SMALL

the Tiger Pinot Noir 2014 - SOLD OUT

winemaker’s comments:
the Tiger Pinot Noir is a single vineyard wine made from grapes grown in our Tiger vineyard in the Lowburn sub-region. The vineyard is on sloping land up off the valley floor and this elevated cooler position allows the vineyard to ripen slowly, building layer upon layer of flavour nuance and soft silky tannins. The wines from this vineyard typically display spicy aromatic red berry fruits and violets. The palate is characterised by a broad structure and layers of fine integrated tannin and fruit which is more textural than structural. The Tiger is always quite shy and reticent in its youth and after 4-5 years in bottle it really blossoms and expresses itself.

wine notes:
Bright red cherry and currant fruits combined with woody herbs and spice to deliver a complex perfume. The entry is soft and dominated by the red berry fruits, then layer upon layer of fine tannin build and expand on the palate to a calm yet powerful finish as the fruit turns to more herbal and savory tones that carry the flavour length.

harvest: 4th April 2014           in bottle: 19th January 2016
Brix   23.9                                 pH – 3.65
pH   3.46                                  TA – 5.1

"Fine-textured pinot noir with impressive purity and delicacy. It's a medley of red fruits, cherry and raspberry with subtle floral, violet and rose petal notes and a suggestion of spices. Made with a light touch but not short of power as evidenced by the wine's lengthy finish."

"This stylish Lowburn pinot exhibits fabulous aromas of red/black cherry, dried herb, floral, toasted nut and truffle on the nose, followed by an exquisitely expressed palate that is silky, refined and lingering.  The wine is beautifully poised and composed with deep savoury flavours, finishing impressively long and silky."

Viper 2014WEB SMALL

the Viper Pinot Noir 2014

winemakers comments:
The Viper Pinot Noir is made from grapes grown in the Vipers vineyard in the Parkburn area on the western side of LakeDunstan. The vineyard takes it name from the wildflower ”Vipers Bugloss” that covers the area. This vineyard sits on an undulating terrace above the valley floor. The soils are predominantly silt loam over schist gravel. The terrace enjoys moderate temperatures and a long growing season. Ripening tends to be late into the season as the daytime temperatures are cooling. The cooler ripening tends to produce spicy wines with dark fruit flavours and density on the palate. The Viper is always made from the Grandstand block in the vineyard, and the wine always stands out as uniquely in the cellar as it does in the bottle.

wine notes:
There is a lively bouquet of violets and blue berry fruits intermingling with herbal tones, exotic spice and a hint of smoke. Starting at the front, the generous berry fruits are tamed by classic “Viper” herbal/earthy tones, and are then delivered superbly into the back of the palate. The beautifully poised fine tannins create nice tension with the fruit and release a bed of luscious acid which keeps the wine rolling on for a long time.

"A wonderfully structured pinot from the Parkburn district on the western side of Lake Dunstan,
the inviting bouquet shows red/black cherry, black tea, floral, bay leaf and nutmeg aromas. The palate is concentrated and multi-layered delivering sweet fruit flavours as well as complex earthy mushroom notes, leading to a superbly long, delicately drying finish.

Mason Vineyard 2014 WEB SMALL3

mason vineyard pinot noir 2014

winemakers comments:
The Mason Vineyard Pinot Noir is a single vineyard wine grown on the Mason vineyard in the Parkburn sub-region of the Cromwell Basin. It is a unique and captivating site on a north facing frost free slope. The wine is predominately made up of a parcel of Abel clone Pinot Noir that grows on a steep north facing ridge within the block. We favour the grapes that grow there because the vines seem to struggle more than the rest of the block and the fruit that is produced has smaller bunches and more intense flavours as a result. It is very spicy and the fruit is elegant and sinewy on the palate. We also pick at the same time a smaller amount of clone 777 & 667 on the gentler slope directly below the Abel. This parcel gives the wine good tannin structure and fruit weight.

wine notes:
An intense perfume of juicy red cherry fruit, briar rose floral notes and exotic spices. On the palate the red fruit and spice flavours mingle with an earthy note that is wonderfully complex. The finish is sustained by the sturdy coating tannins and mineral acidity providing a counterpoint to the fruit and a tightness that promises real reward in the years to come as the wine opens and becomes even more expressive of its unique site.

"Elegant and ethereal pinot noir with strawberry, cherry, floral and subtle spice flavours.  Subtle sweetness and impressive purity - at first it seems quite light, but a long and linear finish demonstrates real power.  Delicious now but with potential"

"A stunning single vineyard offering from the Parkburn district, the complex bouquet shows dark cherry, black olive, dried herb and toasted nut aromas, leading to a beautifully weighted palate that is flowing and flavoursome.  The wine delivers power as well as grace and layers of fine texture and engaging flavours."

the MK11 Pinot Noir 2013

MKII Pinot Noir 2013

wine notes:

An intense bouquet of black cherry and currants, with cranberry notes, all framed in dark spice aromas. On the palate the crunchy black cherry fruit dominates, supported by mouth coating velvety tannins and they combine to deliver excellent mid to back palate weight and structure. The finish is a flavoursome, long and sustained display of power and elegance.

Pinot Gris 2017

winemakers comments:
Our Pinot Gris is made from fruit grown on our Tiger and Sinclair vineyards in the Parkburn area of Cromwell.  All the grapes are hand harvested and fermented in small lots in stainless steel tanks helping to retain fruit purity and finesse. The wine is full, dry and textural, it displays excellent fruit structure, intensity and mineral length.

wine description:
The aroma displays ripe quince and pear fruit notes with dried herb and white spice in the background giving a pleasant lift. The wine is full, textural and dry on the palate. The fruit offers plenty of structure and is balanced with fine mineral flavours on the finish.

CF Closeburn Chardonnay 2017 web small

Closeburn Chardonnay 2017

winemaker’s comments:
Closeburn is our un-oaked Chardonnay. The fruit is grown throughout the Central Otago region and exhibits the regions natural elegant fruit flavours and mineral complexity. The wine is fermented in tank to retain its bright fruit. It is then left to rest on its yeast lees to gain some doughy complexity and softness. This is a refreshing full-bodied wine, unencumbered by oak and superb with food.

wine description:
At first the wine displays an enticing bouquet of dried herbs and aromatic citrus fruit with a hint of the stony elements which follow in the mouth. The broad and lush white fleshed fruit in the entry is wonderfully restrained by the saline laced acid on the long, calm finish.

Judge & Jury Chardonnay 2016

maximum 6 bottles per order

winemakers comments:
The Judge & Jury chardonnay is grown on steep slope overlooking the Tiger vineyard in Lowburn. Chardonnay grown on this site produces the same aromatically spicy/floral profiles that we find in the Pinot Noir grown here, as well as similar persistence and very long lived flavours. The palate length shows rich mineral acid and saline notes that combine beautifully with the citrus and white stonefruit flavours.

We are keeping the crop load very low (3Tns/Ha), and the wine is mostly fermented in tank while a small portion is made in barrel. The result is a wine that is tight, refreshingly pure and mineral driven, showcasing cool climate fruit where the oak is very much in the background. Only 340 cases made. Best from 2018 on.

wine description:
In the glass there is a wonderful perfume of white flowers, white peach and bouquet garni, while the spice and toasty barrel components lounge comfortably in the background giving extra warmth and depth. Creamy peach and lemon sorbet flavours on the nicely weighted palate; and the mineral laced acid gently pushes the fruit along the generous and lengthy finish.

harvest: 4th April 2016                             in bottle:
Brix   23.3                                                     pH – 3.38

Gewurztraminer 2016

winemaker’s comments:
The fruit was hand harvested and we crushed a portion of the crop and left the juice in contact with the skins overnight before a very long and gentle press. Typically the pressing will take 9-10 hours, the slow gentle pressing gives us very clean juice that doesn'’t require any further clarifying or processing before a long cool fermentation in tank.

wine description:
On the nose strong spicy aromas of clove and white pepper dominate the floral background.  The wine has great fruit weight and texture in the mouth; with flavours of passionfruit, melon, spice and a dry flavoursome finish.

Riesling 2017

winemakers comments:
Our Riesling is grown on the Arena Block in the Viper Vineyard at Parkburn. The Arena block is planted on a very steep north to north-west facing slope. The north facing part of the slope tends to ripen earlier and is picked for the Vipers Riesling. The north-west face is left to ripen for a longer period and is picked for this drier Chard Farm Riesling. The longer ripening period allows us to pick grapes with lower acid and riper flavours, and to make a drier style wine than the Vipers. We aim to make a fuller style that has good fruit weight and texture without losing the grapes renowned fruit focus and backbone. The 2017 Riesling will reward those with the patience to cellar the wine for 3 – 7 years.

wine description:
Enticing summer aromas of crisp green apple, fresh lime, white flowers and wet stone. The vivid and juicy fruit rolls through to the back of the palate like a wave, before slowly receding, revealing the stony acidity lying underneath.

composition at harvest:                           composition in bottle:
Date: 24th April 2017                                 pH: 3.01

Vipers Vineyard Riesling 2016

winemaker’s comments:
Our Vipers Vineyard is located on an undulating terrace in the Parkburn area of Cromwell. It takes its name from the wildflower Vipers Bugloss covering the area. Grown on the Arena C Block of the vineyard, the steep NNE facing slope produces grapes with distinctive lime flavours and a mineral edge.

This wine is made from the first pick of Riesling grapes just as they are coming into the right balance of fruit flavour, acid and sweetness. The Arena C block develops good flavours earlier than the rest of vineyard, and with higher acid. So to keep the wine balanced it is made in a medium sweet style, and is a wonderful aperitif or great with food that has a little heat.

wine description:
At first the nose shows wet stone and lime aromas, then opens up to a very complex array of musk, mint, wild herb and talc notes. In the mouth the wine is at the same time textural and light and the limey fruit dances across the palate to a beautifully balanced and lingering finish

composition at harvest:                  composition in bottle:
Date: 05/04/2016                               pH: 2.92

Swiftburn 2014WEB SMALL

Swiftburn Sauvignon Blanc 2017

winemakers comments:
Our Central Otago grown Sauvignon Blanc is made to display classic Sauvignon herbaceousness, a touch of tropical fruit and a textural structure we only see in Central Otago Sauvignon Blanc. It is something a little different. The wine is full and textural in the mouth and has long lasting flavour. Handpicked and whole bunch pressed this is a small batch wine. Wild yeast fermentation, extended lees contact, and a small portion fermented in barrel gives the wine the texture and length we are looking for.

wine description:
The wine has the classic pungent Sauvignon aromas of passion fruit and gooseberry, with ripe citrus and dried herbs in the background. On the palate the fresh fruit flavours burst forth and are complemented with savory notes of capsicum and herbs adding extra depth and complexity. The finish is long, mineral and flavoursome.
