 2015 Single Vineyards Pinot Noir

"Delicately scented pinot noir with a lifted floral and red rose aroma together with cherry, raspberry, spice and thyme characters on the palate. Wonderful purity and an ethereal texture, the wine has surprising power and a very lengthy finish. Delicious now but no rush."

Seductively subtle pinot noir, with a light colour and restrained but appealingly pure cherry, red rose and violet flavours. A smooth textured wine with a lingering, pleasantly drying finish.

Mason Vineyard 2015 | Bob Campbell | Score: 94 points

Distinctive pinot noir with a light hue but quite concentrated flavours suggesting floral, violet, fresh herb and red cherry characters. A pure, delicate wine with a structure of peppery tannins increasing cellaring prospects.

Could you tell me about yourself and your background in wine?

I worked at one of the biggest wine importer in China. Then in 2010 I moved over to New Zealand and worked in Marlborough in 2010 and finally moved to Auckland to complete a PGD in Wine Science at Auckland University. In 2012 I did a vintage in Bourgogne, then in 2014 traveled a bit in Spain and Italy drinking lots of wine obviously!  At the moment I’m trying hard to complete my WSET 4 fingers crossed I will hopefully pass this time!

How long were you at Stonyridge winery and what was it do you did there?

I started working for Stonyridge Winery on Waiheke island in 2012 as the Cellar Door Manager. It was such an amazing role, running the cellar door in such an iconic busy winery, but I have now started my new adventure as Cellar Door Manager of Chard Farm, and taking in all that Central Otago has to offer.

What are your favourite wines of all time?

Love great wines from all around the world! I Drink anything that is delicious, but sharing them with the right people is the key.

What brought you to Central Otago?

Great pinot noir and the amazing landscape!    

What’s your favourite Chard Farm wine and why?

 Viper at the moment. expressive, elegant with complex layers

Give us a little fun fact about yourself that nobody else knows?

I do try to put on weight but no one believes! I am a bit face blind! Emily Prentis is one of my favourite characters in ‘criminal mind’, but did not recognize her until I finished a 20mins tasting! I also LOVE single malt whiskey.

Farewell Mitch!

Sadly we say goodbye to Mitch Backhouse, our amazing Cellar door manager and chard farm institution! Mitch has worked here for over 9 years and i'm sure you have all had the pleasure of one of her amazing tastings! She will be sadly missed and especially from all her staff and loyal wine club members. But she will be rafting in Colorado with her family this winter and we all wish you well in the future whatever it may bring!
