cover cropping in the vineyards
23 January 2018
What is cover cropping I hear you ask? Well the cover crop in this picture is Ryecorn at our 'Viper block" which was planted to increase organic matter in the soil and improve the soils water holding capacity. The cultivation of the soil and subsequent breakdown of older organic material also encourages microbes, worms and other beneficial insects into the ecosystem. Here at Chard Farm the vineyard team are doing a fantastic job to making our vineyards more sustainable and encourage a healthy ecosystem.
